Foreword by the head of the department

It gives me great pleasure to welcome you to the website for our department, the department of microbiology and immunology (DMI). The DMI is dedicated to teaching of the basics and principles of infectious diseases (microbiology) and their interactions with the human immune system (immunology) to 3rd year Medical students. This website is meant to give an overview to the aims and achievements of the DMI. While mainly targeting 3rd year medical students undertaking our courses, the "www.dmi.ly" can also benefit other students from sister departments and faculties, namely: the departments of pathology and parasitology; and the faculties of pharmacy, science, and medical technology. All our staff are committed to excellence in local research and teaching. In a large department such as ours, with more than 1000 students undertake our courses annually, standards of excellence can only be achieved by the contribution of the entire team; and I would like to express my sincere thanks to all the academic, administrative, technical and research staff for their significant contributions.

My special thanks go to Dr Abdulhamid Al-Tubuly for finding the time and effort to create, edit and maintain this humble website. Please do browse through our web pages and do not hesitate to ask for more information should you need any.
